Wernle’s Golf Classic & Auction

wernle

wernlegolfThere’s a special treat coming up in Richmond for golfers and lovers of the Cincinnati Reds.

A veteran pitcher and the speediest young player in Major League Baseball will take part on
Monday, May 12, in the annual Wernle Coaches for Kids golf event.
Golfers will have the opportunity to meet pitcher Mat Latos and rookie outfielder Billy
Hamilton during the event at Forest Hills Country Club.

To sign up as sponsor or a team, contact Marci or Jodi at Wernle by calling (765) 939-4575 or
visiting development@wernle.org. Individual golfers can sign up, too.
The event also will include an auction that will feature lots of sports-related memorabilia.
Latos has won 14 games in each of the last two seasons, while Hamilton is considered one of
the speediest players ever in the game.

May 12 is a day off on the Reds’ schedule.

They play homes games on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies and Tuesday against the San
Diego Padres.

The annual event is one of the top fund-raisers each year for the Wernle Youth & Family
Treatment Center. Wernle has served children of need in Richmond and the region for 135
years. It can house, treat, supervise and educate 75 young men at one time. A girls program is
starting soon on a campus that has expanded with new and renovated buildings.

Previous hosts of the golf event have included college basketball coaches Steve Alford of
UCLA and Mike Brey of Notre Dame, legendary NBA coach Del Harris and NBA player Ken
Barlow, and NCAA football stars Tony Rice, Pat Terrell and Allen Pickett from Notre Dame.

Wernle CEO Darrell Gordon was a starting linebacker on the 1988 Notre Dame football team,
the last Irish squad to win the championship.
