“Buy Local” Contest Presented By Summersault Of Richmond

Summersault website development is offering a $1,000 prize for the best amateur video showcasing what it means to “buy local” in Wayne County during this holiday season.

During the week of Thanksgiving, the contest website at BuyLocalWayneCounty.com will begin allowing people who live or work in Wayne County to submit their own YouTube videos about buying from locally owned businesses and organizations. Users will also be allowed to vote on videos and the top eligible vote-getter will win the $1,000 prize.

The contest will end at 5:00 pm, Wednesday December 19th.  Summersault will award the prize of $1000.00, later that week.

So get your creative hats on and put together a video to promote shopping local.  There are great places in Wayne County to feature, and the people who frequent those shops are sometimes great characters.  Have a fun time being producer, director and maybe even star of your own movie and you may win the grand prize of $1000.00!

Small Business Saturday Is Coming: November 24, 2012

It’s that time of year again…Small Business Saturday highlights the importance of supporting your locally owned and operated small business owners.

So while you are out shopping after Thanksgiving, remember on the 24th to frequent your favorite cafes and shop locally owned stores.  Let’s show our neighbors that we appreciate their ingenuity and bravery in venturing out to start a business.  These businesses add jobs to our community as well as giving us choices for quality experiences. Fireworks Following RiverRats Game Tonight, July 4th, 2012

There will be a Fireworks display tonight after the RiverRats game against the Chillicothe Paints. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm. See you there!

Relay For Life Wayne County Moves Many As The Evening Ends In Fireworks

Many were moved throughout the day yesterday- moved to laughter and tears.  As volunteers from many businesses and organizations walked the track in the hot sun, children played games and got their faces painted.  People gathered and shared memories of loved ones, and experiences of surviving the disease we all decided we hate- cancer.

The video below of fireworks with a live Christian band in the background, was a particularly poignant way to end the day–a celebration of the lives of many who still fight to find a cure and the ones who have gone on after a long battle.  For more pictures of Relay For Life you can visit our Facebook site at Go Wayne County.

Christmas Parade In Richmond IN

Below you can watch part of the Christmas Parade in Richmond, which took place this past Friday night.  People lined the streets, in very cold temperatures, and though the quality of the video isn’t great, you can hear the excitement of the children as they watch the floats and mascots go by.  It was worth freezing to see.  And later we went to the Coop to purchase yummy snacks and hair ribbons- it was a fun night! Remembering 9/11 Close To Home: Video Of 9/11 Escort, Richmond IN

Today marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and there will be a memorial service held in Veteran’s Park, Richmond at 1:00 p.m.  At the same time all over the country bells will ring and sirens sound to remember those lost on a very sad day in our country’s history.

Below is a piece of that history which came to town this summer during the 9/11 escort in video.  However you commemorate this day in your lives and your families, let us all come together in a moment of quiet reflection and share our deepest wishes for peace as well as safety for all soldiers who are still in harms way. Schools Close For a Third Day In Wayne County…As Ice And Snow Leave a Mess

As of 9:00 p.m. tonight just about every school in Wayne County had announced they were closing tomorrow.

Western Wayne Schools and Centerville Abington were two of the first, followed closely by Nettlecreek schools in Hagerstown and Richmond Community Schools (who listed their closings on the website).  Galileo Charter school and Richmond Friends School also listed closings.

After two days of ice, a snowy/ice mix and power outages all over rural Wayne County, some may be a bit tired of the winter wonderland.  And though I don’t like driving in this mess…I do still love the beauty of a snowy day.  The video below was taken today as the snow fell in our yard.  Be careful out there, drive safely and stay warm.
