Come to the Market to enjoy your favorite fresh vegetables, cake pops, homemade breads, local honey and more.  And then at 1:00 p.m. you can particpate in the potluck- just bring a dish to share and a drink to participate.  (bringing your own plates and utensils will help minimize trash as well).

The Summer Market will begin on May 4, 2013 in the Morrisson Reeves parking lot.  (the picture at right is an innovative way to grow tomatoes all year round).

Check back in to the Gowaynecounty.com site for updates to summer events.  And remember to check our calendar regularly as it is often updated.  We have also added a calendar just for concerts and live music where you can submit your own upcoming musical events.

The city of Richmond, Indiana established an Environmental Sustainability Commission, by approval of the Mayor and the Richmond Common Council, in May 2012. Commission members have since been appointed and have begun to meet regularly to promote sustainability, conservation of natural resources, and maintenance of a healthy environment for the City and its residents.

The nine-member Commission, jointly appointed by the Mayor and Common Council, includes representatives from a non-profit organizations; business/ industry; city governance; education; youth (high-school age); and utilities. Current Commission members include: Stephanie Hays- Mussoni (Chair), Alison Zajdel (Vice-Chair), Scott Hess (Secretary), Darryl Decker, Denise Johnson, Elise Lynn, Ron Oler, and Scott Zimmerman, as well as non-voting community members Kevin McCurdy, Jared Patton, and Elijah Welch.  The Commission has begun work to help implement Richmond’s already existing goals as a participant in the Indiana CLEAN (Comprehensive Local Environmental Action Network) Community Challenge. These goals include: increasing the amount of walking and bike trails in the city; enhancing collection and disposal of medical drugs in order to improve water quality; increasing plantings of native tree species; collecting and disposing of improperly dumped tires; and reducing chemical contamination of stormwater runoff. The Commission has also begun work to review the Sustainability section of the Richmond Comprehensive Plan and to organize an Environmental Summit of local environmental groups and stakeholders, which will share information and plan further initiatives.

The Commission holds regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, open to the general public, at 4 pm in the Community Room of the Richmond City Building.

Richmond citizens should feel free to contact any of the members for community input and suggestions (you can reach Stephanie Hays-Mussoni at shaysmus@iue.edu or Scott Hess at hesssc@earlham.edu).

Oktoberfest 2011 In The Depot District

This year’s Octoberfest did not disappoint as it was bigger and better than last year!  There was something for everyone from live music, delicious foods of all kinds, face painting, fresh baked goods, German foods cheesecake….and so much more!

The crowd gathered as the tricycle races began with teams competing for over 150.00 worth of gift  certificates from area merchants.  (see video below)  After several “heats” the overall champions of the day were the Johnson Boys team.

Two stages of live music played throughout the day, one in front of Steve Terzini’s Little Shebas and another stage in the beer garden by Joe’s Pizza.  (See more videos of live music at our Go Wayne County youtube site).

Kids enjoyed the bouncers throughout the fest as well as yummy soft ice cream and cotton candy- there were even hot apple dumplings.

The "Johnson Boys" team congratulate each other on winning the Tricycle Race

If you missed Oktoberfest this year

- no worries it will be back next year at the same time.  It gets better every year, thanks to all the sponsors and people who help organize this event.

Can You Date These Antique Street Bricks?

Attention Richmond History Buffs!

GWC has received a request from Tim Beard, of Van Buren, Ohio about the age of Antique Bricks he recently acquired.   GWC would like to know, too!   Please check out his request below along with the pictures he provided.   Post in comments if you can help him out with dating these beautiful historical bricks of Richmond, Indiana streets.

richmond indiana antique street bricks

I am interested in inquiring historical information on these paver bricks.  We acquired over 400 of them at an Estate sale.  They were advertised as Antique Street Bricks from Richmond Indiana.  We are restoring our 1835 home back to originality of the era and was interested in if these bricks are from the 1800′s or 1900′s.  We plan on using some for our front sidewalks.  Any information for us would be greatly appreciated.

Back To E Street

gravel - the band - the myth

Hosts Brian Elstro and Megan Eversole

Hello All.  After my brief hiatus it was really great to see you out again at the E Street Pub.  The music has only gotten better and better.  We really need more shows like this one around town.

The show last night was hosted by one of the most talented people I know Megan Eversole, and co-hosted by none other than Mr. Grumbles himself the awesome drummer Brian Elstro.  And there were so many great musicians; just like always.  I feel like writing about this event can and may have become redundant, but until you come down and see it for yourself.. and yes I’m talking to you.. you will listen (i.e. read) to every single word I have to say (i.e. type).  I kid, I kid.  But seriously do yourself a favor and come down and join us next Thursday night at E Street.  It’s a friendly environment and no one will force you to drink if you don’t wanna.  Just come see what amazing musicians Richmond has to offer.
