Who says the kids get to have all the fun? Come support the Richmond High School Student Council at the 5th Annual Platinum Prom. This social event, for citizens age 60 and over, will take place on Saturday, April 14, from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at Richmond High School’s Cafeteria, 380 Hub Etchison Parkway, Richmond.

Dancing will begin with live music played by local favorites, The Rush County Big Band, a group of 14-20 current and former educators from Central Indiana. Other activities will include bingo, prizes, a queen and king contest and refreshments.

This elegant event will provide an opportunity for the younger and older generations to dance, mingle and learn from each other, in a festive party atmosphere.  Many Richmond High School students have been attending ballroom dance lessons to prepare for the event.  The theme for this year’s prom will be “In the Mood.”

Attendees are encourages to dress in semi-formal to formal attire. This event is FREE. Come with or without a partner. Each guest will receive a complimentary corsage and coffee mug.  Seniors of all levels of mobility are welcome.

devilette clinic, rhs, richmondDevilette Clinic 2012 Come spend a day with the RHS Devilettes learning a dance routine to perform at the Varsity Basketball Halftime.

Game Time is 3:00. Each participant receives a T-shirt, lunch, and ticket for admission into the game. We start at 11:00, feed everyone lunch after we practice, sit together in the stands for the first half, then perform at half-time.

You’ll be with the Devilettes from 11:00 until after you perform.

WHO: Ages 4 through Grade 6

WHERE: Richmond High School—Tiernan Center—Enter Tiernan Center Doors off SW 2nd Street by the Tennis Courts

WHEN: Saturday, February 11, 11:00 a.m. Students should not arrive prior to 11:00 a.m.

COST: $25.00—checks payable to Richmond High School Devilettes.
This includes: free admission into the game for the performer, learning a routine taught by the Devilettes, performing at half time with the Devilettes, and lunch.

HOW: Mail form & money post-marked by Wednesday , February 1 to: Terry Runnels, Richmond High School, 380 Hub Etchison Pkwy, Richmond, IN 47374.

Registrations not postmarked or turned into the school’s office by Wednesday , February 1, are not guaranteed a clinic t-shirt in your choice of size.

The t-shirt is worn for the half-time performance. The clinic price, however, would remain the same–$25.00. For the performance, wear the clinic t-shirt, dark shorts (black preferred), tennis shoes, socks, and hair out of your face to show your great Smiles!!!!

Friday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m., Common Grounds Coffeehouse welcomes back Four Shillings Short, a Celtic music group featuring husband and wife singers Aodh Óg Ó Tuama and Christy Martin. They are back here for their third visit to Richmond, on a tour that stretches from California to Maine and from Florida to Minnesota.  Cost is 5.00.  Refreshments will be available.

Wildflower Hike Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Many flowers are starting to pop out!!!  And this will be a beautiful weekend to be out in nature on the trails and by the ponds where the frogs are ringing in spring with their wonderful chirps.  Members participate for free – non-members only $3. Call to register 855-3188.  The Cope Environmental Center is located off of Airport Road, which is on your left off of 40 as you are heading into the town of Centerville.

Now that Spring is here, Townsend Community Center invites you to help kick off the garden season by joining us for a Planting Party & Lunch from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  There will be planting and building of raised beds.  Join us for lunch form 12-1:00 p.m.  In case of rain it will be rescheduled for Saturday April 9, 10-1.  Call Mona Mayberry at 965-5800 if you need transportation.  This event is part of the celebration of Minority Health Month.

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana At Civic Hall Performing Arts

Saturday, 7:30 – 9:30 pm.  The Earlham Concert Choir, Earlham Women’s Chorus, Richmond Community Chorus and Earlham Symphony Orchestra, with guest musicians from the Richmond Symphony Orchestra come together to perform Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, a scenic cantata based on twenty-four poems. It is one of the most thrilling and popular of all choral works, with an emphasis on infectious rhythm, folk-based harmonies and a text that celebrates the joy of living. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the concert will open with a work by the orchestra alone. April 3, 2011,  7:00 pm,  Goddard Auditorium, Carpenter Hall.  A family-friendly evening of Centerville High School and Earlham Percussion, DRUMaddix is an annual outreach event combining the talent of several local percussion ensembles with the addition of a special guest artist/group. Included in this concert are special guests Pavel Polanco-Safadit and his latin jazz trio Direct Contact.
