Richmond River Rats 2010 Season

Richmond River Rats 2010

by Karole Passmore

Update: The 2011 River Rats Baseball schedule has been posted here.

The first home game for the Richmond River Rats is Friday, June 4, 2010.  I hope by then I can remember that they are not called the Richmond Rugrats.

Richmond River Rats 2010Years ago when our town supported the Roosters, my sons and I spent many happy hours and some birthdays at the stadium, which historically has seen great ball players like Satchel Paige, Joe Garagiola, Preacher Roxx and Jim Bunning.

With a new ball team to celebrate, our family will hopefully be able to step back in time for a nostalgic moment celebrating my son’s 24th birthday with the River Rats this year at a home game on June 11th.

There can be no better apple pie moment in a small town than to enjoy the ambiance of a ball game.  The smell of peanuts and popcorn at the snack bar, hot dogs gripped in little fists to savor as they watch their favorite player at bat—this is what pulls me back for another season with a  second generation of family.

Players are in practice now preparing to come to Richmond and be housed by one of many families who will open their homes to a “River Rat.”  Some are the same families who hosted “Roosters”.  (Obviously they are fond of animals of any kind).

Seriously, it is a wonderful opportunity for a small town to host a ball team.  It offers yet another place for families and friends to come together and share a wholesome experience in Richmond.
