Foundation announces Lilly Endowment Community Scholars

The Wayne County Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of two area high school seniors who will receive the prestigious Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. 

Surprise! Tyler

Tyler Hoodlebrink and Erica Coulter were chosen from a pool of 75 applicants from throughout WayneCounty.  Each recipient will receive a four-year, full tuition scholarship and $900 annual stipend for required books and equipment. 

 Tyler, a senior atHagerstown High School, maintained a 3.9 GPA while participating in football, 4-H, National Honor Society, track, and model legislature throughout his high school career.  He was co-captain of the football team along with volunteering for the Hagerstown Public Library and the after-school tutoring program. Tylerplans to major in mechanical engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.  He is the son of Brenda and Jim Hoodlebrink

A Happy Erica!

Erica, a senior at CentervilleHigh School, maintained a 4.0 GPA while participating in band, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Spanish club, golf, swimming, speech team, and student council.  She has also held several leadership roles along with volunteering for http://copeenvironmental.org/, church mission trips, and her church nursery.   Erica plans to major in journalism at IndianaUniversity.  She is the daughter of Sara and Eric Coulter.

This year a total of 142 scholarships were awarded statewide by the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc., in conjunction with community foundations and Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI). ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state. 

Since 1998, 33 students have been awarded Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships through the Wayne County Foundation.  This year’s awardees will be recognized, at the Wayne County Foundation’s Annual Report to the Community dinner on June 28.
