What’s Happening This First Spring Weekend In Wayne County

Dream Keepers Dance

A major culminating event for Disability Awareness Month will be the Dream Keepers Dance on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the RHS Cafeteria.  The dance will include a DJ from 6-10 p.m., a 50/50 drawing, refreshments, information booths, and a wheelchair dance demonstration, as well as lots of great door prizes donated by businesses in the community.  This event is open to the public and people of all ages with varying disabilities. (Under18 must be accompanied by and adult).  Entry is free, however donations will be accepted.  It’s not too late to RSVP by calling 765-939-9226.

Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 8:00pm, Celtic Blaze featuring Stephanie Cadman is a brand-new theatrically-staged show appealing to all ages.  The show explores Canadian heritage through music and dance, set to a modern creative-contemporary edge.  Call the box office for ticket information. Richmond Laughs!

Comedy Comes To Wayne County… More Weekends Added!  Mar 26th, and April 9th, and there are two shows each of those Saturdays at 7:00 & 9:45. The show is still FREE with a 2 drink minimum.  The fun is not over yet.  Since the first two weekends of comedy shows were such a success, the company has added three more dates with a total of six more chances to have a much needed laugh. All you have to do is call the reservation hotline at 765-588-4604.

Winter Farmer’s Market

There are three Winter Farmers Markets left this season – the next one is taking place this Saturday, March 26th from 9-noon at the Innovation Center here in Richmond. There are various local, homemade items available to purchase. Some items include homemade bread & crackers; fresh produce; local beans, popcorn, and cornmeal; handmade, natural skin care products; handmade yard art and various other craft items.  Also live music by local musicians.

Sunday’s concert at Stout Meetinghouse on the Earlham College Campus, is a family affair with outstanding artists; Virginia Weckstrom Kantor, leading pianist and teacher at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music; Paul Kantor, Eleanor H. Biggs Memorial Distinguished Professor of Violin also at the Cleveland Institute of Music; and Tim Kantor, currently pursuing a doctoral degree Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Co-sponsored by the Vail Meetinghouse Concert Endowed Fund.

Celebrate Disability Awareness Month In Wayne County

Disability Awareness Month Events

The month of March celebrates Disability Awareness, and in honor of people with disabilities and those who support them there are several events planned in Wayne County.

On March 16, 2011, Dr. Laura Windsor will speak on new options for people with low vision at Friends Fellowship Community from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  This is open to the public at no cost.  As technology grows in the field of low vision, there are many amazing new products to help people become independent again—by reading books, taking care of their paperwork and for some the ability to drive.  The Independent Living Center and Friends Fellowship are sponsoring the event.

On March 16, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, the Senior Center will host the Richmond Eye Center which will be offering free vision screening.  This event is open to the public.

There will be many other events scheduled throughout the community, such as Disability Awareness on March 30th at I.U. East, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Check the GoWayneCounty.com calendar which is updated regularly with new events each week.  If you have an event in celebration of D.A.M., please submit it to the calendar.
