Hundreds of children of all ages lined up all the way into the parking lot Thursday night for the Back to School Splash Bash, also celebrating the last of the family swim nights for this summer.
The first 100 children received a backpack full of school supplies, but the remaining children didn’t seem to mind that they didn’t get one—they were there to have fun and there were plenty of opportunities for that.
Also at the door more school supplies were collected, as an optional entry fee, to give to other children to prepare for going back to school.
Several sponsors of the evening were given thanks, but the main organizer of the Splash Bash, and other family swims through the summer, was the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department. They received well deserved thanks throughout the night.
The emcee for the evening and DJ who was a Richmond native also thanked all the lifeguards for their hard work this summer.
Through the evening there were games such as the Limbo contest, the Biggest Splash, and a Hula Hoop contest which was dominated by girls of every size. Each winning contestant earned a prize. Parents and children alike enjoyed the games, whether watching or participating. As the children left the pool party, all were given a gift certificate to Bob Evans for a free meal.
This was a well sponsored event with wonderful activities and great music, another success for the Richmond Parks Department and sponsors. Thanks also to all the JUKO staff and the lifeguards who kept our children safe and entertained this summer! Now it’s time for you all to take a break and let the kids work for a change.
