Last Weekend’s Antique Show In Cambridge City A Success For All Who Participated

antique show cambridge inauguration 010

Whether you were in Cambridge City to purchase antiques or to show them, many walked away happy last weekend.

Vendors came from all over, including Tennessee and Kansas City

bringing some unique antiques with them for display.  A local collector from Richmond, Robbie Lee, said he had been busy all that  morning at his booth set up with items including books, refinished furniture and other collectibles.

Both sides of main street were lined with vendors, as well as antique shops being opened such as the Log House Antiques whose owner was one of the coordinators of the event.  Several vendors were set up around the grounds of their establishment.  (see more photos on GoWayneCounty’s Facebook site).

Lumpy’s Café and The Pour House

both reported being very busy last Saturday, with lines at the counter in both places.  It was a success as well for many who came to find a one of a kind antique or collectible, savor some good homemade food and purchase decorative gourds for the holidays.  There was something for everyone and it will hopefully become an annual event.

If you have an event coming up and would like us to cover it or need advertising, just let us know.  Go to GoWayneCounty.com and click “contact.”  Send us your request and we will put your event on our calendar, and if we can we will cover it for you as well.  We love to be invited—but we may show up anyway.

Live Music, Good Food & Shops In The Depot District, Richmond IN

Holidays In The Depot District

In the past when we ran through the checklist of locally owned restaurants that are open in the evening, we used to be frustrated with the few choices.

But last week we had three great experiences in the Depot District in Richmond.  Earlier in the week we went to our old favorite, Joe’s Pizza, to have the pizza and salad buffet.  The pizza is always fresh with a large variety on the bar (my favorites are the spinach and vegetable pizzas).  They also carry specialty pizzas and sandwiches that you can order separate from the bar.  We have enjoyed Friday nights there listening to pianist Carol Lou and friends, playing old time favorites.

After our meal at Joe’s we walked down to Parker’s General Store (Mitrione’s) and picked out some yummy desserts and also got some Christmas shopping done.  Besides adding hot foods and a salad bar along with a new soda pop fountain with sodas, sundaes and other yummy treats, they also carry unique gift and food items.  If you are in the market for old fashioned toys or special wines, they carry those and much more.

And on Friday night we went back to the Depot District to eat at Little Sheba’s, one of three restaurants in the Depot District open in the evenings.  I enjoyed a veggie burger on flat bread and later we shared a slice of cheesecake.  While we ate we listened to the live music of Randy Baker, his son Brian on guitar and professional bass guitar player Bill.    Owner of Little Sheba’s, Steve Terzini, said that they incorporate live music on weekends and that Baker and friends are a regular there at least once a month. (see video below)

Shops open later for the holiday season…

Not only are there great places to eat, but there are shops open later for the holiday season.  Across the street from Little Sheba’s you will find Richmond Furniture Gallery open and ready for business.  Right next to Sheba’s is The Good Life Emporium has natural cotton t-shirts, jackets, mugs and more.  One idea is to go early to shop at stores, like the Railroad Store and antique shops, that close at 6:00 and then have dinner after.

In the video below you can see and hear Randy Baker and friends.  (Little Sheba’s was packed last Friday so you will also hear the background noise of people having a great time).  Enjoy the video and remember the next time you are looking for a great food experience in the evening–check out one of the restaurants at the Depot District in Richmond IN.

Food, Antiques, and Architecture In Cambridge City

Vinton House in {{w|Cambridge City, Indiana}}....

by Linda Humphrey

Took another wonderful little trip to Cambridge City the other day. Hit our favorite shops. The Pour House for lunch, of course.

All the old buildings on National Road are so interesting, and this one is especially so. It’s actually called the Pour House Antiques and Cafe.

Location: 109 W. Main St. (U.S. 40).

Hours: Tues.-Sat. 9-5; Sun. 11-4.

The lunch fare is outstanding and this time I got the chicken salad wrap, which includes potato salad, chips and a pickle. YUM! Just had a coke to go with it, because we start our shopping with lunch, and then end the trip with a delicious coffee drink at the same place.

(For more down home cooking you might try Lumpy’s restaurant…also delicious.)

Then we meander down to Building 125…

Location: 125 W Main St. (U.S. 40).

Hours: Tue.-Thurs. 10-5;  Fri. 10-4; Sat. 10-5

Here you can enjoy 3 floors of antiques in a beautifully restored old bldg.

A newly opened store is the Log House Antiques across 40 and there are 3 floors of goodies there also. Beautiful jewelry, antiques and great decorating ideas.

The Hole in the Wall Antiques is absolutely packed w/ things that bring back memories of another time. We do so miss Cows in the Creek. Vicky has the most wonderful ideas for decorating, and we hope she returns soon.

All of these great places are included in Antique Alley on U.S. 40.

Centerville and Webb’s Antique Mall, The Olde Brass Hog, etc.  And I must say the owners and helpers are so kind and knowlegeable.

Back at the Pour House we had delicious, special hot coffee drinks on that chilly day, and were offered biscotti or muffins, pie or homemade fudge. GO! … and enjoy.
