Punk Night @ E Street Pub

E Street PubSaturday night was the punk show at E Street Pub.  Now I have to be honest with you, cause if I wasn’t what would this be worth to you… or me for that matter.  Anyway Punk music isn’t my normal cup of tea, but I thoroughly enjoyed what I was hearing last night.  It was a 3 band lineup featuring Safety-Pin, The Misunderstood and Chamomile.

Safety-Pin rocked the crowd with a hour’s worth of fairly well known punk song covers.  “This is not your token Blink 182 punk”, to quote the leader singer of Safety-Pin Brian Wells.  He is most definitely right.  With rockin’ beats from the Ramones to Depehce Mode the crowd and I were certainly entertained.

Up next was The Misunderstood with a female lead vocalist slash guitarist that also treated us to her drumming skills on one song.  I enjoyed the upbeat fast sounds that they played on some of their original songs.  They really got the crowd up and moving.

Some folks drove hours to support their favorite musicians.  Chamomile, the final band, is from Bloomington, Indiana.  Two brothers make up the band.  One guitar, vocals, and a set of drums.  These guys really rocked.  They had people up on their feet the entire time they played.  Their sound was a little heavier and I think the crowd really enjoyed that.  Heck, I really enjoyed it, and like I said not my normal thing.  It was also kinda cool to see a band made up of just two people up there producing such great sounds.

I’m happy I went and checked out “Punk Night” at E Street Pub.  I have a strong affinity for great music and get satisfaction out of supporting my local live musicians.  Plus, in my opinion, there’s no better place to be when you’re looking for good quality entertainment or just something to do on a Saturday night.  There was a very good vibe in the crowd last night.  It seems to be a recurring theme on live music nights at E Street Pub.  Friends pouring beers for friends.  Ah, you gotta love it.
