Come to the Market to enjoy your favorite fresh vegetables, cake pops, homemade breads, local honey and more.  And then at 1:00 p.m. you can particpate in the potluck- just bring a dish to share and a drink to participate.  (bringing your own plates and utensils will help minimize trash as well).

The Summer Market will begin on May 4, 2013 in the Morrisson Reeves parking lot.  (the picture at right is an innovative way to grow tomatoes all year round).

Check back in to the Gowaynecounty.com site for updates to summer events.  And remember to check our calendar regularly as it is often updated.  We have also added a calendar just for concerts and live music where you can submit your own upcoming musical events.

A “Hoe Down” Day In Wayne County: Sprout Of Control & Farmer’s Market

The “honey man” brought local honey from Hagerstown. (it’s actually called Pawpaw’s honey farm)

Today was a great day for good home grown foods and getting your hands dirty.  And if you missed it, there will be another opportunity in just two weeks!

Several volunteers showed up at the Townsend Center today to prepare the community garden for planting.  Some were from Earlham and all were there to support the new garden initiative “Sprout Of Control.”  This wonderful group is actually the combination of two groups in the area who have the same purpose: building community gardens all over the area.

The crowd arrives at the Winter Farmer’s Market. The next Market is March 23, 2013 10-2 p.m.

The Winter Farmer’s Market, this year at the Townsend Center, is a great opportunity to find homemade baked goods, textiles, jewelry, and fresh greens and lettuce.

Today we were able to pick up a bib for a new baby in the family, a bag of salad greens, onions, fresh baked bread and an apron.  After we helped a bit with the community garden we went back in for luscious snack of cake pops, mmmmm…….

Sprout of Control volunteers show up early at Townsend Center, March 9, 2013 to help prepare the community garden.

After the close of the market, there was a meeting of the planning committee for Sprout Of Control- which is open to anyone interested in sharing their gardening expertise or just lending a hand.

The next meeting for Sprout of Control will be March 23rd, again at the close of the Market at 2:30 p.m.  Come get involved and join in the “Hoe Down,” in Wayne County.
