Every year the 4H Fair organizers bring great shows to the annual fair, and this year is no exception. You can enjoy a FREE concert by the Phillip Fox Band on June 26 at 7:30 p.m., at the Wayne County Fair on the Free Stage.
“For us it’s about the music first” explains front man, Phillip Fox. “Our favorite songs and artists are timeless. It’s great music that transcends scenes, fads, and production trends. We’re not really paying attention to what’s popular at the moment or what will get played on the radio and we hope that comes as a breath of fresh air in our music.” (quote from Phillip Fox Band.com)
Enjoy the bands trademark sounthern rock sound all for free at the Fair!

Today at the 4H Fair is an exciting day for all the 4H kids who have worked so hard taking care of their animals. It’s the big Auction Day, where kids will sell all types of animals. Get out to the 4H Fair and cheer them on- these are such hard-working and determined kids and deserve our support.
Later today, 7:30 p.m., Corey Cox will provide live entertainment on the Tom Raper RV Free Stage. Corey has quite a following and according to his fan website “Continuing his rapid climb in the country music world in 2012, Corey performed for tens of thousands of fans in the Super Bowl XLVI Village, sang the National Anthem at the Brickyard 400 Nationwide Race and secured a major sponsorship with Coors Banquet beer. Corey has built his name through his relatable lyrics, contagious songs, and energetic live shows – a combination that has attracted a strong and loyal following.” And his fans follow him everywhere! According to Corey- this is what he was meant to do. And he loves it. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to see him perform live–and Free!

If you are interested in registering for the Wayne County 4H Queen competition, you must have your registration in by May 31, 2014. Also, there are some changes in the rules. Please read below for updates.
* IMPORTANT CHANGES **
The Wayne County 4-H Fair Queen Committee has made a recent change concerning the 2014 Queen Contest.
The NEW ages for the queen division will be 16 and older. You must be 16 as of June 1, 2015 to compete in this division.
The new ages will allow more ladies to participate and have the opportunity to obtain the skills for interviewing, stage presence, and public appearances.
KEEP IN MIND….in order to participate at state fair, the Wayne County Queen must be 18 years old by June 1, 2015. The “underage” ladies will have the option to keep the queen status or relinquish the queen status, if chosen prior to the contest. State Fair rules states you can only win your county fair once.
SO…..for example…..you are 16 years old and have the highest points to win the 2014 Queen title. You will have chosen prior to the contest, that if you were chosen, that you would:
- Keep the title, however know you are not old enough to compete at State Fair. You would also know that you cannot compete for the Wayne County Fair Queen in the future, or
- Relinquish the queen title and obtain an alternate title. You would then be able to compete in future contest and attend State Fair, if age appropriate.
This can be confusing. So please call or text 914.6771 or email at email@example.com with questions, comments or concerns.
Deadline to register is May 31st. Sponsorship fee will be $50. Orientation is this Sunday, May 18th at 2pm at the First Friends Church on Chester Blvd (next to Friends Fellowship). First queen workshop is Tuesday, June 3rd from 6:30-8pm at Lingle Hall at Reid Hospital.
Other age divisions:
- Juniors – ages 7, 8, 9
- PreTeens – ages 10, 11, 12
- Teens – ages 13, 14, 15
- Queens – ages 16 to 21
This year the Wayne County 4H Fair will run from June 21 – 28, 2014, and what a line up!
Live music on the Tom Raper stage will include the Phillip Fox Band and Pork McElHinny. Some old favorites will return this year including the Silly Safari animal show, a free ice cream social, and the exciting tractor pulls. 4Her’s will be showing off their livestock, horse and crafts projects all week, so be sure to get out and support them.
Keep checking back for more updates and check our calendar for fair events. It’s going to be a great year for the 4H Fair!

Elephant ears, funnel cakes, walking tacos…..okay that’s what I think of first when I think of the Fair. Next, I picture the 4H kids working hard on their projects or with their animals. And then I think of the sounds…live music, laughter, animal noises, the sizzling of hot sausage on the grill… and I’m back to the food again. <sigh>
Whatever your reasons for loving the Fair- come on out and enjoy! Free concerts on the Tom Raper RV Stage will be going on throughout the week, Poor Jacks Amusement rides start on June 22, the exotic petting zoo is back, the one man band, fireworks and the mechanical bull- plus much more!!
Check out the full schedule and make sure you don’t miss a thing. We’ll be out and about through the week taking pictures- so don’t miss the photo op while you are having fun at the Fair! See you there.
