Anonymous Donor Creates Fund to Benefit Siloam Clinic

Press Release

Donor Offers Dollar-for-Dollar Match for Other Gifts

The Wayne County Foundation has been approached by an anonymous donor who has set up an endowed fund to benefit the Siloam Clinic in Richmond.   Additionally, this person is offering up to $5,000 more to match other gifts given to the fund between now and the end of the year.

“Access to quality healthcare is critically important,” said Steve Borchers, executive director of the Foundation.  “This is a wonderful gift that will help address that need and – we hope – encourage others to be supportive, too.”

The Siloam Clinic is an outreach ministry of Petra Project of Richmond.  It serves Wayne County residents age 13 and older who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare coverage.

Pastor David Eales founded the clinic in 2009 with an all-volunteer team of doctors and nurses.  Currently, there are eight volunteer physicians, more than 15 nurses, and 5 administrative volunteers who staff the clinic every Tuesday evening.  There is no cost to the patients.

“The numbers of people we help speak to the need,” he said.  “We have served more than 600 people so far and have logged in over 1,200 visits. We have also provided more than $5,000 worth of prescriptions to those who cannot purchase what our doctors prescribe.”

The fund, created at the Wayne County Foundation with $5,000 will produce an annual distribution in support of the clinic and its prescription drug program. Raising additional dollars from the community will trigger more money from the anonymous donor.  This will mean the clinic will receive a greater distribution every year.

“Our donor would very much like to see the fund be larger than $5,000 – and even larger than $15,000,” said Borchers.  “We have a real opportunity to make that happen and effectively triple the annual support to the clinic.”

Contributions to the Siloam Clinic Fund should be directed to Wayne County Foundation, 33 South 7th Street, Richmond, or through the Foundation’s online giving option at waynecountyfoundation.org.  You can call the Foundation Office at 765-962-1638 with questions.

“This fund will be very important to the long-term sustainability of the clinic,” said Pastor Eales.  “Because we keep our costs so low, the amount we could receive annually from the fund represents a significant portion of our overall operation.”

It traces the adventures of a young Parisian girl who – despite staritng off on the wrong foot with a mischievous new neighbor – eventually learns that first impressions aren’t everything.

When one fine day the Spanish Ambassador moves into the house next door, Madeline and Miss Clavel and the other girls quickly discover that his son Pepito is a true horror! Rude and conceited, Pepito seems at first to be nothing but trouble.  But when he unexpectedly finds himself in real danger, it’s up to the resourceful Madeline to get him out of it.

Can she teach Pepito a lesson into the bargain, and does he have a hidden good side after all? This gently amusing tale of enemies‐become‐friends will charm and entertain children and parents alike.

State Approves Three Loop Routes For Whitewater Canal Scenic Byway

News Release logo

PRESS RELEASE
Submitted by:  Candy Yurak

Visitor opportunities in the Whitewater Valley have improved significantly with the recent addition of three “loop routes” to the Whitewater Canal Scenic Byway (WCSB). The primary route of the Byway, which follows the course of the historicWhitewater Canal from Hagerstown to Lawrenceburg, was designated as a State Byway in 2008.

Byways in Indiana are designated by the Department of Transportation, and then approved by the Lieutenant Governor.  The primary route of the WCSB travels through Wayne, Fayette, Franklin and Dearborn County in Indiana, and through the western part of Hamilton County in Ohio.  The addition of the loop routes also ties in Union and Ripley counties.

The three loop routes will offer Byway visitors a better opportunity to experience the history and scenery of the Whitewater Valley; to visit its towns and stores; and to take advantage of its many recreational options.

Byway President, Candy Yurcak, says that the added route will encourage visitors to spend two or three days in the region, instead of traveling the main route in a day or less.  “They can enjoy some fried chicken, stay at a quaint B&B, shop for antiques, and visit local craftspeople.” For those who do not have a lot of time, the loops will enable a visitor to travel part of the historic canal route, and then explore some of the surrounding countryside on the return trip.

The East Fork loop travels east from Cambridge City along Route 40 (the Historic National Road) to Richmond, then south on SR 101, returning to the canal route in Brookville.

The Oldenburg-Batesville Loop travels south on SR 229, through these two distinctive towns, turns east on SR 46 to St. Leon, then north on SR 1, returning to the canal route near Cedar Grove.

The Dearborn-Ripley Loop goes from Lawrenceburg to Aurora, travels northeast on SR 350 to Milan, north to Sunman on SR 101, east to Dover on North Dearborn Road, then returns to the canal route in Lawrenceburg via SR 1.

When the Whitewater Canal was built 175 years ago, it connected the WhitewaterValley to the rest of the country. Today, visitor can come to the valley, explore that historic route and enjoy a wide variety of informative and recreational activities.  See the WCBA website http://www.whitewatercanalscenicbyway.org/ for more information.
