Randolph County Fair : July 17 – July 22, 2010
So how does deep fried sugar cream pie sound? Well that is one of the treats you can enjoy at the Randolph County Fair in Winchester this week. Two families, Heather James and Kevin Cook families, in Winchester are trying out this treat for this year with hopes to take it to the State Fair in 2011. Sugar Cream pie is the pie of Indiana and Mrs. Wicks Pies in Winchester is the base for this treat.
For all the usual fun at a fair and competitions this one is within driving distance. Take US 27 N through Fountain City and Lynn and you will get to the Randolph County Fair in Winchester at the fairgrounds. Also coming up soon in Winchester is the annual Track Show Festival of bands from the area. There will be several bands from Wayne County participating in this event. Winchesters title for their track show is “For We Wrestle Not.” The track show will be on July 31 starting at 7:00 p.m.
Preble County Fair: July 31 – August 7th, 2010
Opening day at this annual fair will include a parade at around noon. The Grand Fair Parade will line up at Eaton middle school and end up in front of the Grandstand on the fairgrounds-this will include free admission to the grandstand. There will be several shows and exhibits including photography, baked goods, and a Pee Wee show. Amusement rides will begin on the first day, wristbands will cost 20.00 to ride all day.
Directions to this fair are 70 East to the Eaton exit (about 9.8 miles) take 35 toward Eaton and take a left onto West Main St (122) and a right onto OH-122. 722 S Franklin St.
Franklin County Free Fair: August 1 – August 7, 2010
This fair in Connersville has free parking and free admission. They will offer rides, games, exhibits and entertainment. It will be located at Roberts Park and 4H fairgrounds off North Park Road. Take US 40 East to the Connersville exit before entering Cambridge City. It is a very short drive from all points in Wayne County.
Darke County Fair: August 20-28, 2010
The Darke County Fair in Greenville Ohio will be celebrating 154 years. They will have their annual “Band Spectacular” on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for bands in the area to practice their routines non-competitively. This Fair is about 30 miles from areas in Wayne County.
It is truly County Fair season. Go out and enjoy a short road trip to one or all of these great events.
